We are currently working on 4 projects:
THE FOX ROUNDABOUT
We want to improve the look of this roundabout as it gives visitors the first impression of the town.
GILBERT'S ALLEY
We are also keen to develop Gilbert's Alley. We have set a timescale of early 2011 to complete the project. The task is a huge one. Despite extensive research by members of Highworth Historical Society, we can only establish the names of three current owners. Legal advice indicates that we can still proceed despite this. We shall not be able to develop it using public funds as local government rules prevent this. We shall have to raise the money privately. We do not have a clear figure yet but it will be in excess of £20,000. We have plans as to how we might raise the money, including creating a form of ‘Memory Lane', where members of the public can buy slabs on which they can have names engraved.
INFORMATION CENTRE
We want to create a presence on the High Street.
VILLAGE GREEN
The creation of a Village Green on land at Windrush. The proposal is currently with the legal department of Swindon Borough Council. |
